(Credit: DTEK) DTEK Group, a private investor in Ukraine’s energy sector, has announced a €140m investment plan to construct a series of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the country with a combined capacity of 200MW.
The €140 million total investment aims to enhance power grid stability, bolstering Ukraine’s energy security and independence. The project will be the biggest operational energy storage portfolio in Eastern Europe at the time of commissioning.
Battery technology plays a crucial role in decentralising Ukraine’s energy system to mitigate the impact of energy supply disruptions caused by Russia, said the energy investment company.
Together, they will store up to 400 MWh of electricity – enough to supply two hours of power to 600,000 homes (equivalent to roughly half the households in Kyiv).
