Oil & Gas Middle East coverage has regularly spotlighted this project for its strategic importance to the Kingdom’s downstream sector. Saipem remains a leading offshore EPC contractor in the Middle East, with a significant portfolio spanning Saudi Aramco’s Marjan offshore field development and QatarEnergy’s North Field Expansion.
The consortium secured one of the largest EPC contracts in the region’s recent history—a $7.7 billion award for Saudi Aramco’s Fadhili Gas Plant expansion. The contract includes the construction of complex gas treatment and sulphur recovery facilities, vital to increasing processing capacity in line with Saudi Arabia’s energy development plans.
Shanghai Electric first won the EPC contract for the project in November 2024, when the project was announced as part of the fifth round of the NREP.
NPCC’s extensive experience and regional connections keep it a go-to contractor across the Gulf. Petrofac maintains a significant and diversified EPC presence across the Middle East, particularly in the UAE where its longstanding partnership with ADNOC continues to yield major contracts.
